Whisky and AI - the new master blender
Welcome to the future and the birth of “Intelligens” - the world’s first AI created whisky.
A Swedish single malt whisky distillery, Mackmyra, has partnered with a Finnish technology consultant, Fourkind, to produce the word’s first machine learning generated whisky using Microsoft Azure.
How? Microsoft’s cloud system generates various codes by examining large amounts of big data sets to generate specific patterns. The distillery’s machine learning models are then fed with Mackmyra’s existing whisky recipes, sales data, and customer preferences.
From an initial list of seventy-five whisky combinations, the cognitive service platform uses a code to produce over seventy million recipes of the highest quality that it predicts will be popular amongst consumers.
Feeding the platform with existing recipes teaches it about viable elements it could possibly work with to generate a larger number of options for the market. Machine learning also extends to the process of manually removing unfeasible recipe combinations from the platform’s algorithm. The algorithm’s familiarisation to workable ingredients is key to achieving the best possible whisky in the market.
The impact of this augmentation and automation on the generally time-consuming whisky-making process reflects Microsoft’s assertion that this application to AI-technology may have a potential impact on several other market industries like perfumes, beverages and shoe designs.
We look forward to seeing what’s next.
